A Brother To His Sister

Dear Charlotte,

We get up in the morning at four o'clock and answer roll call then go down to the river and wash ourselves then clean up our tents and dress ourselves for parade. Then we do what we please with ourselves until evening parade. Give my love to Mary, Roseanna, Margaret, and Dorsey, and all inquiring friends. Tell them that I am getting as fat as a hog and don't intend to shave anymore until I get back (if ever I do get back - which I hope I will.) Write soon, and give Billy a kiss for me. Excuse me for cutting my letter so short, but the drums are beating to arms. So, no more at present. God bless you all.

Your affectionate brother,

William
